Daily Poll 85: Are you religious?
I was raised in a secular family so I’ve never been a believer of religion. I’ve skimed through the Bible a few times and proverbs 22:7 does resonate with me. It’s just a work of literature to me. I am certain that forces that are much greater than humans exist. Whatever they are or what it is is beyond human comprehension. Leave your thoughts and prayers down below.

One of my side pursuits is actually biblical studies; reading actual biblical scholarship as opposed to popular Christian books. To me, it’s fascinating stuff trying to study scripture in it’s original Ancient NearEastern context. And I believe you actually get much closer to what the original author was trying to communicate versus what you might hear from famous pastor XYZ. I do consider myself a Christian, but without any denominational pretexts. I like to delve into books that aren’t necessarily canonical, such as (surprise, surprise) the Book of 1st Enoch.

I hope you will consult Dr. Michael Heiser, who hosts the Naked Bible Podcast. His focus on textual criticism brought much clarity on what the scriptures actually are saying. I learned much from him for the past few years.

I love that podcast! He’s the guy that got me studying 1st Enoch and other 2nd Temple texts.

I am not religious but I understand the purpose of it. Great moral guidelines, faith, and community.

Christian myself, raised Catholic but I left that behind after seeing how similar it is to political bureaucracy. Currently I’d say I’m non-denominational, but I would say that the Scripture itself is my mentor.

I am Christian. Grew up with a charismatic doctrine, meaning I believe miracles and supernatural phenomenon occurs today as they did during the early church period.

Yes, I’m Christian, believe in God and that Jesus is the Lord and Savior. I usually go to church but haven’t been since to restrictions, I do still stream service. I’m really not sure if they require masks in the building, on the stream I still see people in masks but as long as that’s a thing, I’ll continue to stream lol.

I’m probably in the minority here but I’m vehemently anti-religious. I don’t judge anyone for their beliefs, it’s just not for me.
Between the collectivism of the respective groups and my natural scepticism, I just can’t wrap my brain around it.
