My first experience withthe concept of a multiverse came through the “mirror universe” in Star Trek. It fascinated me as a kid, so much so that when I got into comics & discovered the Elseworlds line from DC & the What if…? Books from Marvel I was all- in on them.

I understand and respect Eric’s point on multiveverses more though since it has become clear that no one currently involved in ST, DC, or Marvel have any idea what they’re doing.

It used to be that writers had a clear understanding of a character & it would just be an exercise in exploring how that character would react/ function in a different scenario, The Darkest Knight graphic novel is a prime example of this. Nowadays they’re just using multiverse settings to tell stories that wouldn’t interest anyone otherwise.

All in all, if done properly it can be fun but it just isn’t these days.

I believe it would be better in fan fiction territory.

the one I thought was best (in movie and tv shows) was Fringe. If you have never seen it definitely check it out. It starts ultra strong then goes limp in the middle some where (that’s what she said LOL) but finishes strong. I don’t remember hating the ending.

I watched an episode or two with my mom and It wasn’t something I liked. It might have been a bit of bias against JJ coloring my view but the story seems to be complex and cryptic for the sake of being complex and cryptic. I did read through the whole plot online and it was slightly interesting. I also gave my mom really cryptic spoilers about the show that made no sense for about a week afterwards which was fun.

Tbh, I used to love the idea of a multiverse, mostly cuz of evil counterparts and what if scenarios. Now at this point, I don’t care for any of that crap, and I feel that multiverses REALLY cheapen the significance and uniqueness of the characters.
