Daily Poll 198: How do you feel about polygamy?
In most modern cultures monogamy is the only legitimate way to conduct relationships but humans have been practicing polygamy for thousands of years. I can understand what draws people to enter into these relationships on some level but it just isn’t for me. What about you? Don’t forget to vote on the poll and to comment below!

I won’t say that it shouldn’t be allowed. For the most part, I am of the mindset that people should be left alone to do as they please, no matter how self destructive they might be. However, polygamy does not seem to be a system that can be sustained within a family. Someone is bound to get jealous (with every right to that jealousy in my opinion). Someone is bound to be overwhelmed by the multiple partners (how can any guy keep up with the emotional needs of multiple wives??? I struggle with just one.). My biggest concern lies with the children growing up in these polygamous families. I wonder how that affects their development when they find out a parental figure does not come home from work every day because they go off to visit another kid they have with someone else. It all just seems like too much.

Just look at those idiots on TLC. I had some friends that where in a polyamorous marriage, and the result was divorce. It is so dumb.

I disagree with your statement about jealousy in a polygamist relationship being something someone is entitled to. The reason is you entered into that relationship knowing full well what was going on and it was going to be and where you were going to stand in that relationship. So if you as one of the multiple partners feels jealousy you need to leave because you become the toxic portion of that relationship and obviously a polygamist relationship isn’t for you.

I consider it degeneracy. To each their own, but there are almost definitely unintended societal effects.

I am of the opinion that as long as your adults do as you please. If you have kids raise the right. All I care about is people loving and respecting one another with in the relationships they choose.

Polygamy and polyamory are very interesting topics. There’s nothing against it in any religion that includes Christianity. And there’s nothing to say that it’s actually wrong except for in society. However society changes based upon what people choose to believe is or is not taboo thus the definition of acceptable is constantly influx. So though I could not see myself with multiple partners and nor would I allow my partner to have another partner other than me, I do know people that have a polyamory type relationship and it works for them.
