The New Renaissance #4
Art is a great way to experience and talk about issues of morality, ethics, and philosophy, among other topics. For a long time super heroes helped discuss these deep and difficult issues. I believe the new renaissance will need to be able to accomplish this task as well. However, there is an issue the culture will run into: heroes that are contradictory. A great example of this are the characters of Batman and The Shadow. They seem similar on the surface, and certainly one was inspired by the other, but The Shadow justifies the killing of villains and use of guns while Batman (typically) has a “no killing” rule and hates guns. The new renaissance will likely run into this same issue. Does this issue even need to be addressed? If it does, how can it be addressed?

A piece of art stands on its own and to have the intention on making good art and hold true to the values of whatever medium your working in is what matters most. The independent space if just that independent. Creatives in CG have different values and it’s reflected in their work but they respect their audience and have integrity and that’s going to reflect in the work and the culture no matter what.

I think the question in it’s self is the purpose of art. The desire to express thoughts and emotions that words alone do not convey. I believe you will have both sides of most issues explored in detail. What boils down to an essence and comes out the other side will be different then the things that came before in their form but the archetypal questions (to kill/not to kill) a hero must ask himself will be ever present.
